Health ministry sounds alarm as weekly Covid positivity rate exceeds 10% in 7 states

The Centre has sounded the alarm over rising Covid-19 instances in the nation. Union well being secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written to the well being secretaries of Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and (*7*) expressing concern as the weekly positivity rate exceeded 10 per cent in these states.

Issuing a warning, the Union well being ministry has stated that the upcoming months are more likely to witness mass gatherings for varied festivities, which might drive up transmission of the contagious virus and result in a rise in caseloads and fatalities.

Meanwhile, India reported 19,406 contemporary Covid-19 instances and 49 deaths in the final 24 hours, in response to information shared by the Union well being ministry.

Among the fatalities, 5 every have been reported from Maharashtra and West Bengal, three from Chhattisgarh, two every from Delhi, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Tripura, and one every from Haryana, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
