CWG 2022: Hoare wins 1,500 metres gold as Wightman denied golden double | Commonwealth Games 2022 News

BIRMINGHAM (England): Australia’s Oliver Hoare used a devastating late kick to assert a shock win within the Commonwealth Games males’s 1,500 metres on Saturday, as Scotland’s newly minted world champion Jake Wightman was denied a golden double.
After Wightman’s gorgeous victory on the worlds a little bit over two weeks in the past in Eugene, Oregon, a capability crowd packed right into a sun-kissed Alexander Stadium with hopes of watching the Scotsman do it once more.
But the roars weren’t sufficient to elevate Wightman to the highest of the rostrum as Hoare timed his transfer to perfection down the house stretch, coming from fourth to pip Kenya’s Timothy Cheruiyot on the line for gold.
Hoare completed in a Games document time of three minutes, 30.12 seconds with Cheruiyot simply 0.09 seconds again to take silver and Wightman settling for bronze.
